Though born in England, Mel Terry grew up in the Pacific Northwest. Mel’s professional career began with magazine and publication design work for a non-profit organization and then segued into print graphics, advertising, marketing and branding. Mel worked as an art director and then ran an in-house ad agency for over fifteen years where he also wrote and directed radio and television advertising.
Mel returned to the University of Oregon to complete his degree in multimedia design where he was strongly encouraged to teach. Mel taught classes in design and graphics software in Eugene and then in 2005 moved to San Diego. He continued worked in advertising, marketing and product packaging design, began teaching at Palomar College, and also worked as a creative for Apple. Mel’s years of experience has given him the opportunity to work with a wide variety of styles and ideas as well as to witness major changes in communication technology: art table to desktop to mobile devices.
Mel currently enjoys teaching at Mira Costa College and sharing his passion for art and design with his students. Mel is thankful for the opportunities and life experiences that have prepared him for teaching. He is especially grateful for his wife and family.
