
MiraCosta Alumna Kathleen Parra is an Emmy Award-winning and two-time Emmy-nominated Newscast Director for FOX 5 San Diego (KSWB-TV) and KUSI-TV. She currently directs prime-time and daytime newscasts, with expertise that spans across newscast direction, technical operations, production, editing and storytelling.
A San Diego native, Parra earned her Bachelor's in Art and Technology from California State University San Marcos. She furthered her education at MiraCosta College where she received certifications in Video and Media, Video and Animation, and Digital Media Foundations, which sparked her journey into the broadcasting industry. Parra is actively pursuing her master's degree in Entertainment Industry Management at California State University Northridge.
She returns to MiraCosta College as an instructor for the Media Arts and Technologies Department. Her passion for fostering creativity and technical excellence translates into her teaching. She brings her firsthand industry knowledge into the classroom, emphasizing collaboration and real-world production skills, while continuing with local news.
