Project 2:
Responsive Design & Business Web Site Research

• Modern Loss •

responsive

Modern Loss is a website directed towards the loss of a loved one. Covering an entire range of issues from obituary questions to therapy to racial identity loss. There appears to be an enormous supply of content on this site. Each photo/image used is within the same size and ratio. Every tag will open a fully detailed page to cover the subjects. There is plenty of advertisement space that runs down the right column with some pop-ups that appear discreetly. Every page has something for the reader and every page is also selling either a book, a service, or a product. A little too much for my taste. But hey, they seem to do quite well.

They encourage you to share your story, tell them how you coped and they might publish your story as well. There are the usual links to Facebook, Twitter, and Snap Chat along the top border. The subject headers are Types of Loss, Hot Topics, Advice, Our Book, About Us. Their footer links include: Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, RSS Feed, Contact Us, Donate, and the copyright signature.

I find it a little unsettling their choices for subjects resemble a shopping list. 12 Ways I Needed Support Myself After My Husband Died, 7 Tips for Reducing Feelings of Isolation, 4 Steps to Writing Fiction About Loss, 6 Tips for Talking to Kids About Death. This site feels like a downer wrapped with a smile.

The Modern Loss website is a responsive website. I have attached a screen capture from my phone to show how similar it is from their PC version. Modern Loss uses a three-column layout with equally sized framed subject links. Similar to shopping online. The artwork is upbeat, bright, and feels feminine which suggests the targeted audience.
