Stunning Waterfalls of New York New York, You Say? So many people think of New York city when even talking about the state of New York. But did you know that New York state is full of water, gorges, and some of the most stunningly beautiful waterfalls in the country? Everywhere you turn, it seems like there is a waterfall tucked away. Here are some highlights to visit that are not necessarily all on the well-known list. Rainbow Falls Nestled deep within Watkins Glen Gorge lies one of the most iconic waterfalls in the U.S.: the breathtaking Rainbow Falls. I'd seen photos and heard from fellow Bassmaster photographer James Overstreet that it was the “most incredible waterfall in the United States,” but nothing could have prepared me for the moment I turned the corner and saw it in person. Great Gully Falls Great Gully Falls is another stunning waterfall in the Finger Lakes region, located near Union Springs, NY, along Highway 90. Keep an eye out for a small sign marking the tiny parking area. Getting to the falls is straightforward—just follow the creek upstream. However, you’ll need to cross the stream, so take extra caution. I ended up slipping on the way back, and the rocks were quite treacherous. Fall Creek Fall Creek cascades 150 feet over Ithaca Falls in New York's Finger Lakes Region. This stunning waterfall is situated just outside of Ithaca and a short distance upstream from where the creek meets Cayuga Lake. It's easily accessible and makes for an excellent spot for a hike. Middle Falls of Genesse River A short distance downstream from Letchworth’s Upper Falls lies the impressive Middle Falls of the Genesee River. This majestic cascade rises over 100 feet and features a captivating character, highlighted by its terraced cliff face. High Falls Gorge In the breathtaking expanse of the Adirondacks, High Falls Gorge awaits—a 22-acre private park located just 10 minutes from Lake Placid. Explore up close the grandeur of four spectacular waterfalls through a network of bridges, walkways, and transparent viewing platforms. Experience the vibrant force of the AuSable River as you stroll alongside it.
