Professional Experience
Apax English, Hanoi, Vietnam
Head Teacher
3/2016 to 10/2018
Managed a private language center of more than ten faculty and staff in Hanoi, Vietnam. This included working closely with heads of departments to discuss and implement marketing and sales strategies, program updates/changes, and company expansion plans. During this time, Apax grew from a regional ESL (English as Second Language) company of only five centers, to one of Vietnam's largest ESL providers with more than one hundred centers nationwide. Additionally, received honors and recognition as one of the company's highest performing teachers, and highest rated managers.
- Trained, supervised, and corrected new teachers through CCTV evaluations and continuous training exercises to ensure high class and center quality. This included conducting individual feedback sessions and quarterly evaluation reports for all faculty members. This resulted in our center being one of the highest rated and most successful centers within the company.
- Worked closely with marketing and sales departments to implement strategies that grew the center from one hundred to more than three hundred students. Similar strategies were later used for the company's rapid growth and expansion across the country. Strategies included the utilization of both traditional and digital outlets, promotional materials, live events, and market research efforts which entailed market potential, competition, and demographics.
- Prepared and updated teacher/staff schedules on bi-weekly or monthly basis. Implemented fair, unbiased schedule updates to accommodate the ever changing needs of both faculty and staff members. Reasons for schedule changes included; employee turnover, position changes within the company, new hires, vacation/time off requests, and emergencies.
- Managed any after hour concerns through on-call availability, 24/7. This was very important and challenging in Vietnam's fast pace, unconventional, and ever changing environment. After hours emergency concerns included; regulatory changes passed on by local and state authorities, both teacher and parent complaints/concerns, and faculty emergencies.
Paradise Found Group, Bali, Indonesia
Assistant Project Manager
3/2019 to 3/2020
Assistant Project Manager of a small scale Eco-Villa project in Bali, Indonesia. Closely assisted in managing all aspects of project operations and developments including but not limited to; site visits and surveys, project timelines, budgeting, collaborations, and negotiations. Effectively managed the project budget by implementing cost effective strategies, decreased cultural misunderstandings through excellent interpersonal communication skills, and helped advise the project owner in all decision making related to project operations.
- Effectively worked with local authorities to obtain all necessary licensing, permits, and authorizations for the project. This was very difficult to accomplish as the Indonesian government makes it very difficult for foreigners to sole own a business in Indonesia. This was achieved by closely working with local attorneys, notary departments, and government offices.
- Simultaneously coordinated with multiple project teams to ensure consistency and that project expectations were met. This included routine meetings with architects, designers, landscapers, and more. As a result of organized and effective communication, this decreased cultural and language misunderstandings which led to deadlines being met, and the budget on track.
- Successfully worked with local communities to build trust and positive relationships. This is very important and oftentimes very difficult to do as a foreigner starting a business in Indonesia. This was done by being honest and transparent with community leaders with our project goals and expectations, supplying employment opportunities, and participating in community celebrations and events. Achieved semi fluency in speaking Indonesian at this time.
