Modeled after the many wide-open grasslands of Africa, our new park location is home to many of the animal species found within this highly diverse biome. A key part of this ecosystem is its varied tree, grass, and shrub life, and this is no exception in our new enclosures. As you move through our new environments you'll spy lions, gazelle, zebras, and more within well cared-for enclosures that reflect their natural habitats. Experience the Savanna and when you visit you'll support endangered species!

Animal All-Stars

Cheetah

Cheetah.

Found within the grasslands of Africa and parts of Asia, cheetahs are known as the fastest land mammal. Able to reach speeds between 60 and 70 miles an hour while on the hunt, these big cats use their tail as a counterbalance to make quick turns during the chase. Sporting spotted fur coats that help them to hide within their surroundings, they sneak up to their prey before beginning their pursuit.

Did you know?

Cheetahs are the only big cats that can't roar. Instead, they purr like smaller cats. Learn more about cheetahs.

Elephant

Elephant.

Elephants are the largest land mammal found in the world. Standing upwards of nearly 10 feet tall and weighing in at an average of over 13,000 pounds, elephants are no push-overs! Able to use their trunks to collect water, as a snorkel, and for grasping objects, they contain around 150,000 groups of muscles alone.

Fun fact:

Elephant tusks are actually very large incisor teeth. They use these teeth both for finding food and for defense. Learn more about elephants.

Zebra

Zebra.

Closely related to horses, zebra are herd animals that consume primarily the grasses found within their grassland habitats. Known for their stripes, zebra use this camoflauge to confuse any would-be predators by sticking close together. On the off chance they are unable to flee, zebra can be aggressive and use both kicks and bites to fend off their attackers.

Striking stripes

Each zebra has a completely unique set of strips. Similar to how no two fingerprints or snowflakes are the same, zebras each have a totally unique set of stripes that only they possess. Learn more about zebras.
