Origami is one of my favorite hobbies. It was introduced to me by my boyfriend in our early stages of dating. Since then, origami has been very near and dear to my heart. I love how relaxing it can be to turn on some peaceful music, pull up a step-by-step guide of anything I want to create, and get to work! The possibilities are endless with origami! Although I have had years of practice, I still believe that I am a beginner in this craft. Below are some of the many pieces I have created over the years!
This candybox is one of the first pieces of origami that I created. It's sweet and simple to do. I remember feeling super accomplished when I created this for the first time. I'm still trying to figure out what I can place inside it, but for now it is inside a shoebox with the rest of my origami. HA! A box in a box!
As a beginner, I had no idea where to begin when I came to making different origami pieces. For Christmas, my boyfriend bought me my very first origami book to encourage me to learn how to make different pieces. He also enjoys doing origami! We always get excited whenever each of us makes something new.
When I opened the book for the first time, animals were the first thing that was recommended to learn. In the fish picture, you can see where I needed to focus on aligning the paper so the white parts do not show. It was my first ever attempt; but I managed to get better as I kept practicing.
Out of the three I included in this section of the webpage, my favorite piece would have to be the dove. I feel like I made the folds much more precise compared to my previous work. I love how detailed the wings turned out!
Origami takes a lot of time and patience. It also requires attention to detail. At first, I struggled with aligning my folds just right so the white parts of the paper did not show. Every time I practiced, I also noticed how hard I would make the creases which will make the final product have a bunch of lines from where it was folded. It's a delicate process but still a fun thing to learn!
The bird shown above is a super popular piece in the video game Heavy Rain. Heavy Rain is an interactive drama game where you are solving a mystery of the Origami Killer. The Origami Killer uses this bird as their calling card or modus operandi.
I really enjoyed playing this game so I wanted to give this piece a shot! I think it turned out to be pretty successful! This one has to be my favorite out of all of my origami!
The heart (on the right) was made back in March 2020 when I reached 1,000 views on my Twitch channel. I was blown away when I reached that milestone that I needed to find a way to show my gratitude to those who helped me reach that goal. I figured making this heart and writing the achievement was a great way to document my success.
As I continue to grow, I plan on making more pieces of origami to symbolize my milestones thoughout my Twitch streaming career.
Hearts are fairly easy to make and do not take much time at all. In my shoebox full of origami pieces, I have TONS of hearts that I have made as practice. They're also cute to give to your loved ones!
Origami is so much fun to do! I recommend giving it a try at least once! You might find yourself a new hobby.
